Rental Rage Relief

[Alert]!Holiday rental fraud increases over the peak season, tenant or landlord, protect yourself with 3 easy steps;

1. Confirm who you’re doing business with.

Unless it’s an International brand hotel or National franchise, check the owners’ details on Google. Vacationers in the B&B or guesthouse market are defrauded every year through false advertising, promises and, the biggest red flag; ‘Pay a security deposit today as there are other interested parties’. Confirm details of the owner and property before paying a deposit.

2. Sight unseen holiday rentals.

If the property is not serviced or managed by a reputable company be wary. The normal scam is to advertise a “ghost” property. The property/guesthouse does not exist. Check and confirm all details of the offering party, if they’re not willing to fully disclose requested information red flag it.

3. Security deposits

Is exactly what it says it is, be sure to check the condition of the rental, all the appliances, fixtures, fittings and utensils. Check for any “hidden fees” for cleaning or services not mentioned. The owner/agent cannot deduct from the security deposit, without proving damages or financial loss.

If in doubt please contact a property professional consultant.
