3 Steps to check that your rental agreement is legal and binding;

- The lease agreement covers the National Acts that govern the industry, The Rental Housing Act, The Consumer Protection Act and the Prevention of Illegal Eviction Act.

- All clauses of the lease agreement must be agreed on by both parties, and each page must be initialed. The full document must be dated and signed with witnesses present.

- Any changes to any clause of the agreement must be initialed by both parties; any additions or special clauses must be signed by both parties.

For security of deposit ensure that an inspection of property by both parties is documented, photographed, signed and dated.
